Background
The brief was a specialty coffee bolthole inside a Birmingham design store. Their tagline — coffee, design, community — was the brief in three words. The site needed to read like an architectural quarterly or a Japanese editorial journal: hushed, slow, generous in margin, and devotional about the everyday.
We built a four-page quiet brand site. A single editorial scroll on the homepage with opening prose, a Now Brewing label, the cinemagraph still, a philosophy paragraph, the Filter Notes Vol. 01 teaser, an in-conversation pull-quote, and a visit module; product blocks with mono detail labels on the menu; long-form journal entries on notes; and a typographic visit page with no map.
Build
The palette is locked to one mood. Bone #F2EEE7 base, warm ink #1B1A17 with a brown bias for the body type, weathered olive used rarely for pull-quotes and hairlines, a single terracotta clay accent reserved for one or two CTAs, and a soft shadow neutral for secondary text. There are no gradients, no drop shadows, no neumorphism, and no glassmorphism anywhere on the site.
Type pairs Apoc as a restrained editorial serif, Söhne as a literary sans at weight 400 with a generous 1.6-plus line height, and JetBrains Mono for product specs, opening hours, and batch numbers. Headlines stay at a mid 48 to 72 pixels and never reach display size — the page earns its quiet by leaving room around every line.
Structurally, the homepage is a single column. Pull-quotes break up the prose rather than feature blocks; the Now Brewing indicator carries the current featured filter coffee with a tiny static-loop steam SVG; the cinemagraph hero is a single still photograph with a subtle SVG water-drop animation; and the visit module is a Kinto-style address block with hours typeset as a list and directions written as a paragraph instead of a map embed.

What's Wired
CafeOrCoffeeShop JSON-LD with the address inside minima on Hospital Street, Birmingham, opening hours, and a relationship reference back to the parent design store.
Generous line height, semantic article elements, hairline rules read as decorative, focus rings in clay, and reduced-motion kills the cinemagraph drop animation.
Framer Motion is used only for the cinemagraph drop loop — every other interaction is static or scroll-based, with no hover lifts or 3D effects.
Apoc display, Söhne body at 400 with 1.6-plus line height, and JetBrains Mono for opening hours, batch numbers, and Now Brewing labels.
Bone #F2EEE7 canvas with warm ink, weathered olive, terracotta clay #A8543A as the one warm accent, and soft shadow for secondary text.
