Background

The Brief Behind The Brand.

The brief was a 30-year family-run institution recently honoured at the House of Lords as one of the Top 100 Asian Restaurants in the UK. The site needed to behave like a premium editorial magazine, not a curry house — a Financial Times HTSI cover spread about a Leamington Spa restaurant set the bar.

We built a five-page editorial site. Cinematic hero, accolades strip, signature dish editorial, a 30-year teaser, and a gold-line reserve CTA on the homepage; chapters I to V on the menu; full timeline and family detail on the story page; address and reservation panel on visit; and a press wall with citations.

Build

Visual System, Motion, And Structure.

The visual system is dark by default. Deep ink #0F0F0F base, parchment #F4ECDD for the long-form text, saffron #E1A93A for the call-to-action highlight, oxblood used sparingly as a secondary accent, brushed gold for hairline rules and accolade cards, and a mist neutral for secondary copy. White space is reserved for the menu pages, where the chapter layout earns it.

Type pairs Tiempos Headline at 96px with tight tracking for hero and feature headlines, Söhne for paragraph copy, and JetBrains Mono for accolades, hours, and addresses with tabular figures. Pull quotes are large italic serif on parchment, sitting between menu chapters as journalistic interludes.

Structurally, the page reads like a long-form magazine spread. The accolades wall is a fixed strip showing TripAdvisor 4.7 with 1,208 reviews, the Top 100 UK 2025 mark, the House of Lords ceremony badge, and the 30+ years line — each as a hairline-bordered card. The 30-year timeline reveals slowly on scroll with a gold hairline and parchment dot markers, and the colophon-style footer carries the address, phone, and hours with hairline rules between fields.
